baptism

I grew up having no formal baptism by any institute of christs assembly. My knowledge of the Lord was whatever the spirit had taught me and just the basic story of Jesus Christ. I understood right away who Jesus was . I understood he was Gods son just from the simple words taught me as a child. The holy spirit taught me who christ is. My baptism was as a child as long as I can remember I have been a child of the Lord. When I was 19 I was water baptised in the river in Lebanon , Oregon by an evangelical ministry. However it was part of completing a christian growth program. When I was 23 I was baptised and confirmed catholic. The priest told me he didnt believe I needed to go through baptism again just confirmation. I did it anyways I liked the formal ceremony of the catholic church baptisms and wanted to just walk through the ceremony. In My family records there was record of many christenings and baptism for each member all the way back hundreds of years on my fathers side. My grandmother was baptised Lutheran and didnt like the strict pioneer teachings of the Lutheran institute. So my father was baptised in some non denominational protestant church. I dont believe my mother was ever baptised formally. Her grandfather was a pentecostal preacher and he deserted the family leaving 5 children and a farm to his wife. My grandmother was pioneer church raised and taught whatever church way of life she knew without the religiousity of attending mass or sunday service. However she had her hands full with 7 children. I believe she had them all goto church when they were kids. Maybe my mom just wasnt baptised. My sister went to church with my parents when she was a child and then to a kindergarten at the pentecostal assembly of God. She is currently married to a Mormon family.

Baptism is a large subject to write about. Our baptism is our birth into the Life of Christ. Our life begins at baptism and the carnal life that only has to do with our flesh is dead. We begin a new life in the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are baptised in the spirit as christ was concieved by the Holy Spirit so also do we become children of light as the Spirit gives birth to new life in us. This makes us one with the Lord. We become baptised into the same family as Elisha, John the baptist, and all the prophets of God. The throne of God becomes our grace and we become heirs to the kingdom of heaven not just heirs to the carnal earthly things of this world. The kingdom of God is not made by hands. His kingdom is much greater than ours yet when we become baptised even the greatest has not a greater importance than the least. Because of this we have the spirit of God to guide us and teach us how to be children of God. We cannot learn from our earthly parents how to be Gods children. Definately not from the institute. We learn right from the Lord because of our baptism into his new life for us. The mysteries of heaven are revealed to us and we can do all things through the Lord of our baptism Jesus Christ.

The water baptism was first done by John the Baptist.

Luke 3
John the Baptist Prepares the Way
1 In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar—when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, Herod tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and Traconitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene— 2 during the high-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness. 3 He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 4 As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet:
"A voice of one calling in the wilderness,
'Prepare the way for the Lord,
make straight paths for him.

5 Every valley shall be filled in,
every mountain and hill made low.
The crooked roads shall become straight,
the rough ways smooth.

6 And all people will see God's salvation.' " [a]

7 John said to the crowds coming out to be baptized by him, "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? 8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. 9 The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire."

10 "What should we do then?" the crowd asked.

11 John answered, "Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same."

12 Even tax collectors came to be baptized. "Teacher," they asked, "what should we do?"

13 "Don't collect any more than you are required to," he told them.

14 Then some soldiers asked him, "And what should we do?"
He replied, "Don't extort money and don't accuse people falsely—be content with your pay."

15 The people were waiting expectantly and were all wondering in their hearts if John might possibly be the Messiah. 16 John answered them all, "I baptize you with [b] water. But one who is more powerful than I will come, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with [c] the Holy Spirit and fire. 17 His winnowing fork is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire." 18 And with many other words John exhorted the people and proclaimed the good news to them.

19 But when John rebuked Herod the tetrarch because of his marriage to Herodias, his brother's wife, and all the other evil things he had done, 20 Herod added this to them all: He locked John up in prison.

The Baptism and Genealogy of Jesus
21 When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened 22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: "You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased."

23 Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry. He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph,

Then Jesus came from Galilee to the ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. John would have prevented him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" But Jesus answered him, "Let it be so now; for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he consented. And when Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and alighting on him; and lo, a voice from heaven, saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."

►Romans 6:3-5

Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?

We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.

This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do, unless God is with him." Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, unless one is born anew, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Nicodemus said to him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

►Acts 8:26-40

And the angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, Get up, and go toward the south unto the way that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza, which is desert. And he got up and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem to worship, Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Isaiah the prophet. Then the Spirit said to Philip, Go near, and stay close to this chariot. And Philip ran up to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, Do you understand what you are reading? And he said, How can I, except someone should guide me? And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. The place of the scripture which he read was this, "He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth: In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth." And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I ask you, of whom is the prophet speaking? of himself, or of some other man? Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached to him Jesus. And as they went on their way, they came to some water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what keeps me from being baptized? And Philip said, If you believe with all your heart, you may. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stop: and they both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and Philip baptized him. And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, and the eunuch saw him no more: but he went on his way rejoicing. But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Caesarea.
